life_mediumOur Tanzanian brothers and sisters use a special Swahili word to describe their understanding of community. The word is “ujamaa” and it is most accurately translated as “family-hood.”  It is a unifying term that the Tanzanian government has urged all Tanzanians to embrace in order to transcend their various tribal identities in favor of a unified national identity.  And the concept of ujamaa is often represented by carvings of interlocking people mutually uplifting, encouraging and caring for one another. “Beloved, while eagerly preparing to write to you about the salvation we share, I find it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.” – (Jude 1:3)

jesus_profileOur human sinfulness alienates us from God our Creator, but the wonderful good news is that Jesus Christ gives us everlasting salvation from this self-imposed alienation and grants us eternal life in heaven. This is our blessed assurance in Christ, thanks be to God!

This grace of God in Christ our Lord is not merely some generic appeal to God’s mercy and compassion. Rather, through the life, sacrificial death and redemptive resurrection of Jesus, we have absolute assurance of our atonement with God. What good news! What amazing grace! (more…)

Yes, as citizens of the USA, we can give thanks for the great blessing of living in an exceptionally good nation. While the USA is not perfect, we must not dismiss the good of the USA for the sake of the perfect. While we always seek to make a more perfect union by addressing our national imperfections, we also acknowledge and give thanks for the true exceptionalism and great good of the United States.
